Taco Meat Seasoning
If you make tacos, you don’t have to buy those little taco seasoning packets anymore–seriously.
Just mix this up in advance–or add each of these spiced to the meat while you’re cooking it and you’ll know the ingredients in your meal, especially if you’re cooking with grass-fed beef from a farmer you know. (There’s some weird stuff in packaged taco seasoning, but there’s weirder stuff in conventionally raised meat.)
I got this recipe from an old cookbook called Make-a-Mix Cookery (Whoever says “cookery” anymore?) that I purchased at a thrift store just because I remembered that my mom had one like it when I was growing up. Yes, Suckers for Food Nostalgia Anonymous, here I come.
Taco Seasoning Mix
2 t. instant minced onion
1 t. salt
1 t. chili powder (NOT chili pepper; you can make your own chili powder with this recipe here.)
1/2 t. cornstarch
1/2 t. crushed dried red pepper
1/2 t. instant minced garlic (dried)
1/4 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. ground cumin
Add this mixture to 1 lb. ground meat for taco meat. Feel nostalgic.
